Robert Todd Harrell, bassist for 3 Doors Down, was arrested on vehicular homicide charges Friday night.
The Tennessean reports, the 41-year-old Harrell ran another driver off Interstate 40 in Nashville, killing him.
Police say Harrell clipped 47-year-old Paul Howard Shoulders Jr.’s Ford-150 with his Cadillac CTS. The truck went down an embankment after hitting a guardrail. It then flipped over, sending Shoulders out of the pickup. Shoulders died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was not wearing his seatbelt.
A quarter-mile down the road, Harrell hit a retaining wall. He admitted to drinking hard cider and taking the prescription painkiller Lortab and the anti-anxiety drug Xanax. Police also found eight Xanax pills, twenty-four Oxycodones and four Oxymorphones when they booked him at the jail.
A $100,000 bond was set and Harrell remained in jail Saturday night. He has been charged with vehicular homicide while intoxicated, drug possession, violating implied consent laws and bringing contraband into a jail.
On Saturday, April 20th, 3 Doors Down released a short statement on their website that reads:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.”
